What Is The Significance Of The Teal Ribbons Around Town?

Question: What Is The Significance Of The Teal Ribbons Around Town?

Answer: Teal Is The Color Which Represents Sexual Assault Awareness Month
The streets of Pagosa Springs are lined with teal ribbons as a visual reminder that unfortunately, there are people who experience physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Rise Above Violence raises awareness about this important issue in our community. Preventing acts of sexual violence starts with sharing with our community and providing education.
Archuleta County Victim Assistance Program  or ACVAP promotes the belief that all people have the right to live free from violence. They provide support and advocacy services for victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault and other inter personal violence. ACVAP has trained advocates that provide 24-hour assistance with emergency needs, crisis intervention, transportation, advocacy (including court), counseling, information and referral. Bi-monthly support groups for women, children and teens are available. Professional trainers uphold lasting community change through violence prevention education programs aimed at youth, specialized training to targeted audiences, and outreach efforts and events for the community. All ACVAP services are free and confidential in both Spanish and English
Statistics show that one in three teens in the U.S. experience physical, emotional or sexual abuse. Women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence. Sadly, only 18 percent of teens affected by relationship violence ever tell anyone. Everyone deserves love and respect. Let’s work together to support cultivating healthy, safe and respectful relationships.
