Join our community to commemorate our fallen citizens of 9/11.
I remember a very cold September day, fifteen years ago, being called in from recess with a sense of urgency. We were being sent home to spend time with our loved ones. Anxiety ridden- the hairs of my arms stood straight and still. I could feel the dark cloud hovering over our small, intimate town. After a long, quiet bus ride home, I walked into my house not knowing what to expect. My mother and father were home from work, which should have been my first clue ( dad never missed work), and my grandparents were in the living room watching the news. Me and my little sister sat down as instructed so my parents could do their best to explain what happened. Terrorists had bombed the World Trade Center.
Confused, I went and sat next to my grandpa- the voice of reason.
With fresh tears in his eyes, the Vietnam Veteran searched for words to comfort me. To no prevail, he grabbed my hands and we sat in prayer for what felt like an eternity.

With fresh tears in his eyes, the Vietnam Veteran searched for words to comfort me. To no prevail, he grabbed my hands and we sat in prayer for what felt like an eternity.
We prayed for the lives lost, for the pilots and passengers of the planes, the people trapped inside the rubble of what used to be the World Trade Center, and we prayed for the heartache of our Nation.
Fifteen years later, we are still healing. Today we are dealing with similar acts of violence, impacting not only America but the entire world. It is times like these where having a tight-knit community like ours becomes a Blessing. Join me and all of the Public Services of Pagosa Springs to commemorate 9/11.
